Alan Bernhard
Leanne Bernhard began drag racing in 2004 ...
We were at a drag racing fun day with the Victorian Torana club and after a few passes, my husband Alan put the keys to TUFF 73 in my hands and simply said "Why don’t you have a go too"? He wouldn't hear my "What if I break it"? princess responses, and got in the car with me, showed me what to do and said "Rev the nuts off it and smash it".
I ‘ve been drag racing ever since, and could not imagine racing TUFF 73 without him. He prepares and maintains TUFF 73 for me, adds new bits to make her faster, tows me to meetings and is my crew not only in racing, but in life too. He has the car ready at all times, fuelled, tyre pressures done and says to me in the staging lanes "You know what to do - Good luck chick"!
Alan pushes me to be better tomorrow than today and has a lot of faith in me - he must have, he lets me race his baby (TUFF 73 ) and doesn't even mind that I am faster than him in it and have been for ages!
Alan is patient with me when I am doing Girls Torque and AWMN stuff - he is always happy to help out at the AWMN drag racing training days and supports Girls Torque and AWMN projects!
I am ever grateful to Alan, he helped me realise one of my life dreams of becoming a Drag Racer with a tuff competitive package! Thank you Alan! You rock my world!
