VEHICLE CASTING - F.A.Q

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS & TERMS

How much will I get paid?

Payments will vary depending on the job and the budget, and the insured value of your vehicle. In some cases it may only be a few hundred dollars or it could net you thousands. It is in our best interests to get the best rate possible for the hire of your vehicle.

I don’t live in a capital city. Is this type of vehicle hire available in regional/country areas?

Many production locations are outside city metropolitan & suburban areas. There is a growing number of production companies re-locating or starting up in country areas. If a production company really wants to use your vehicle, they will pay to get it to their preferred location.

If I want to list my ‘daily driver’, what should I do for transport while it’s being hired?

You will need to borrow or hire a vehicle during the hire period to get around. Be assured, the cost of the hire will be a lot less than what you are being paid. It’s rare for a production company to supply transport while they’re using yours. Depending on the job, sometimes it will only be needed for a few hours, or it could be weeks. You will be paid well while they have your vehicle.

Does my vehicle need to be registered?

This would only be an issue if you need to drive the car on a public road during transport. Filming is usually on a closed set.

What sort of condition can a vehicle be in?

It all depends what the producers are looking for.

Will I be disadvantaged for future work if I say ‘no’ to a job?

Once you know what the job entails, you can say no. This will in no way effect any future work opportunities offered. If you agree to the hire, once production commences you will be unable to withdraw - unless they are using your vehicle in a way that was not advised or agreed upon.

Can I be fussy about what my vehicle is used for, and what if they want to alter it?

Let us know your preferences at the time of listing your vehicle. If the production company wants to do any modifications (for example, they may want to change paint colour - which they would pay for) you can refuse to allow it, and you can also refuse the job. It’s up to you.

What if there’s already a vehicle listed the same or similar to mine, is it worth my while listing?

Yes definitely. Some vehicles may not fully meet the criteria or may not be available for a job at the time, or similar ones may be needed for the same job.

Is the owner allowed on set?

Yes, and it is often preferred - as you know all it’s little quirks and can sort things out quickly if any problem occurs. You must be willing to follow direction and keep out of the way of production though.

Will my vehicle be driven?

If driving is required full details will be included in the production companies brief. They must specify, and you as the owner must agree to the terms, before production starts. In most cases, the owner can be included as the driver, so you know your vehicle will be in safe hands.

What about damages, repairs, that sort of thing?

A production company must have proper insurance to hire your car. If an accident does happen while your vehicle is in their care, your vehicle will be professionally repaired or replaced. If the vehicle needs repairs during or after hire due to misuse by the hiring company, they will pay. Same goes if your vehicle is stolen. Hire vehicles are kept in secure areas when not in use. Production companies don’t want to have any problems, so they will make sure your vehicle is very well looked after.

What about petrol, transportation etc?

When you hire a registered vehicle it comes with a full tank of fuel, so we follow the same criteria. We require you make sure it has a full tank on delivery to the job, and it will be returned to you with a full tank. The production company covers the cost of any fuel they may use.

The production company will pay the cost of transportation or extra driving if the location is more than 100kms from where your vehicle is normally garaged. If under 100kms, they may require you to deliver it to the set, unless prior arrangements have been made.

What if I sell my vehicle after listing it with Girls Torque?

Your listing is regarded as cancelled if it is no longer under your name, as the new owner may not wish to hire the vehicle out. Listings are non transferable. If the new owner wishes the vehicle to be considered for job opportunities, they will need to pay a new listing fee. Our listing fee is low and only covers admin.

Can I change my mind after I list?

You can request your vehicle be removed from the list at anytime. The listing fee is an admin fee only and therefore non refundable.

How can I update my listing, and is there a fee?

It is your responsibility to make sure we have the most up to date info and photos of your vehicle. No fee is charged for updating in normal circumstances, but if a number of changes are required an extra admin fee may be incurred.

Your Privacy

Your privacy is very important to us. None of your personal details will be included online, and registered vehicles will have their number plates covered. The online listing will only include photos as supplied by you, general location (region/state), vehicle details (make, model etc) and hiring guidelines from you, if any. What does it cost to list my vehicle and how do I go about it?

There is a one-off admin fee of $30 to list your first vehicle, and $25 each for any other vehicles you own and want to list. Listing fees are GST inclusive. If you accept a job through us, once terms are agreed upon with yourself and the production company, we do charge a small booking fee for each job accepted.
